What I would like to have The other day in the clothes shop: Customer: "Good afternoon, I would like a pair of trousers." Salesperson: "With pleasure. Which one would you like?" Customer: "These. I like them very much. Just what I'm looking for." Salesperson: "Wonderful! Costs 100." Customer: "I'm afraid I don't have a budget." Salesperson: "Oh. Can I give you something a little cheaper?" Customer: "No budget at all." Salesperson: "Well, then..." Customer: "No budget, but I have an idea: give me the trousers for free." Salesperson: "A gift?" Customer: "No no, you get something out of it too. I will wear these trousers and show them around. I'll be advertising for you, so to speak!" Salesperson: "Advertising for free trousers?" Customer: "And I'll definitely come back to buy something from you!" Salesperson: "You are always welcome here. We accept all major credit cards." Customer: "But the trousers have been hanging here for a long time. Nobody wanted them. Be happy if I take them." Salesperson: "At the doctor's this conversation would have already cost you half a pair of trousers. It has already cost me half a pair of trousers. You're bound to find a free pair of trousers somewhere. Not here. Au revoir!" Customer leaves the shop, muttering angrily: "Ungrateful shop." Task: Replace "customer" with "client". Replace "clothes shop" with "atelier". Replace "a pair of trousers" with an illustration, a photograph, a drawing, a painting, a sculpture, a film, a video or any other artistic/creative work. Replace "salesperson" with artist/creator. Replace "ungrateful shop" with. "Yes, you are right. I'll come back when I'm clear about what I want, what it should be worth to me and how I can finance it."
CULTURAL VALUE We used to send film prints in big boxes to film festivals around the world. You had to write on the package: "For cultural purposes only. No commercial value".
